Texting Abbreviations

Quote:
“And so it is rather bizarre that the first widespread change in how people spell English words appears to have come from a group of (largely) young people sending text messages to one another with cellular phones and other electronic devices.

I agree with this quote because we text and use abbreviations so much, we really don’t even realize we do it! It is bizarre because when we text our peers we all understand the language we use, wheatear it’s “brb” “btw” “bc” or “ttyl” we all understand the language. I feel this has been such an impact in our language because its so much shorter, we are always looking for shortcuts. I feel that it’s not dumbing us down by any means because it still allows us to think about the abbreviations we are sending.  Abbreviations have been around for quite some time, but now we just have to
technology to use them more often.
